Property Variation of Extruded Mg-Gd Alloys by Mn Addition and Processing

This paper presents how the mechanical properties, microstructure and degradation rate of extruded Mn-containing Mg-Gd alloys can be modified during extrusion. Gd as a rare earth element is particularly interesting due to influence on texture development in Mg, therefore studied base alloy system. The contents were investigated between 2 9 wt.%, with Mn additions 0.5 1.0 wt.%. grain sizes corresponding textures by varying extrusion parameters content. It was shown that modification lead further refinement, an increase degree recrystallization, well decrease biological medium compared binary system from previous studies. results suggest resulting properties are more robust alloy.
